David Richards will visit Solaris Motorsport during the Italian GT Championship weekend in Imola
Pescara, Italy – Everything is ready for the start of the Italian GT Championship. This weekend the Italian series promoted by ACI Sport will go back to Imola, the same track that hosted the second round of the season. The May event was a memorable one for Solaris Motorsport as the team conquered the first ever podium for the Vantage GT3 in an Italian Series in Race 1. To further add to this weekend’s atmosphere, David Richards will be the special guest in Solaris’ box.
The Aston Martin Racing and Prodrive Chairman will follow from the pits Friday morning’s free practice sessions, supporting the team and verifying the high level of the Italian GT Championshp with its 40-car grid. Solaris Motorsport prepared the Imola round taking advantage – for the first time in this season – of the amount of data collected in the May race, allowing the Italian team to start from a solid base.
“We are proud to have David Richards with us in Imola. As Aston Martin Racing Team Partner we had the chance to work closely with the guys at Bambury all season long, making progresses together race by race. Being able to have the support of Aston Martin Racing Chairman motivates us to work harder.” commented Roberto Sini, who’s helped in managing the team by his sons Francesco and Laura. “When we raced here in May we showed a good potential both in dry and wet track conditions. We brought home the first ever podium for the Vantage GT3 in an Italian series in Race 1, writing a little page of History, and probably we could have repeated that performance in Race 2, if the red flag didn’t stop our Aston Martin’s comeback.”
For the first time, the Solaris Motorsport team will have data about car and track before the race: “This will help us a lot in the work at home and on track. This is the first year of the Vantage GT3 in Italy, so we had to create a database race by race, starting from scratch. Now we have the experience gathered this spring, and the same will be in Mugello. It’s a little help in such a competitive championship, an anticipation of the way it could work next year when we will have all the data and a bit more experience.”
The fifth round of the Italian GT championship will start on Friday with two free practice session scheduled for 10 AM and 1.55 PM, while the two qualifying sessions are scheduled at 5:55 PM and 6:25 PM. The first race of the weekend will start on Saturday at 2:15 PM while the green flag for Race 2 will wave on Sunday at 11:10 AM. Both the races will be streamed live on the Italian GT Championship web site (www.acisportitalia.it/CIGT)
